Helpful Apps for Your Mobile Device

The U.S. Department of Veterans affairs has developed a range of mobile apps related to self-help and psycho-education. We have also included links to a few apps from other sources that may be helpful. Note: These apps are not intended to replace professional care.

PTSD Coach: “PTSD Coach has now been downloaded over 500,000 times in 115 countries around the world. The PTSD Coach app can help you learn about and manage symptoms that often occur after trauma.”

Mindfulness Coach: “Practicing mindfulness means grounding yourself in the present moment. Mindfulness has been shown to be helpful for reducing stress and coping with unpleasant thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness Coach will help you practice mindfulness meditation.”

AIMS for Anger Management: “AIMS is designed to help you manage anger and irritability.”

Mood Coach: “Mood Coach is an app helps you learn and practice Behavioral Activation for managing mood. It can be used on its own or in combination with face-to-face health care. It is not intended to replace therapy for those who need it.”

COVID Coach: “The COVID Coach app was created for everyone, including Veterans and Servicemembers, to support self-care and overall mental health during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.”

Breathe2Relax: “Breathe2Relax is a portable stress management tool which provides detailed information on the effects of stress on the body and instructions and practice exercises to help users learn the stress management skill called diaphragmatic breathing. Breathing exercises have been documented to decrease the body’s ‘fight-or-flight’ (stress) response, and help with mood stabilization, anger control, and anxiety management. Breathe2Relax can be used as a stand-alone stress reduction tool, or can be used in tandem with clinical care directed by a healthcare worker.”
